RATE OUTLOOK:

We are now near the lower end of the range of rates that we've been in since mid September, and until inflation numbers show it's moving higher or lower, I am expecting rates to stay in the 6.0 - 6.5% range. Next week there are 2 key inflation reports due - the Consumer Price Index and the Price Consumption Expenditure Index. If there are surprises higher or lower with these reports, there will be market movement.

 

MARKET NEWS:

The economic news was interest rate friendly this week, and we saw about 1/8th percent of an improvement across the board. Key highlights: Fed Chairman Ben Bernanke told Congress that inflation is being watched, but is heading in the right direction. This leads them to believe that there are no rate hikes in the near future. Other economic releases were weak, which leads to less of a chance of future inflation.

MARKET NEWS:

Rates ended the week similar to what they started at. Not a lot of economic news to move the markets one way or the other. Next week we will get a read on retail sales, as well as inflation at the wholesale level. Both are expected to come in moderate.
